Welcome to Downtown Orlando

Not often does a major metropolitan area fly under the radar, but that is the case with Downtown Orlando, known by locals as the “City Beautiful.” Downtown gives rise to Orlando’s skyline, which includes several residential buildings with units for sale or rent. The bustling city center revolves around the Central Business District, a north-south corridor bisected by N. Orange Ave. Locals enjoy easy access to unique boutiques, swanky restaurants, and major venues like the Amway Center and Dr. Phillips Center for Performing Art.

What to Love

  • Walkable and bikeable urban streets lined with trees
  • Copious nightlife and live music
  • Detached from the Disney tourism area
  • Palpable sense of history and civic pride

Local Lifestyle

Downtown Orlando and its Central Business District boast a Walk Score of 93, with the Church Street SunRail stop just a few minutes away by foot. You can park your car downtown and enjoy a full day of activities without driving anywhere else. Rarely do bustling city centers and beautiful parks coexist, and Lake Eola Park proves an exception. So does Mayor Carl T. Langford Park, a shady refuge just east of Downtown where Shumard oaks, swamp chestnuts, laurels, and live oak trees thrive. And with the bustling Church Street Station and Wall Street Plaza entertainment districts nearby, there is never a dull moment in Downtown Orlando.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Downtown Orlando contains two primary bar and restaurant districts. The Church Street Station area is named for the eponymous train station, a historic depot dating back to the late 19th century. Church Street buzzes with restaurants, nightclubs, and bars. Kres Chophouse is an excellent spot for steaks, while Mathers Social Gathering serves craft cocktails in vintage digs.

Orlando denizens love Wall Street Plaza, a multipurpose space that throws block parties every weekend. The plaza comprises several restaurants, bars, and clubs; check out Hooch (a converted moonshine warehouse), Waitiki (tiki bar vibes), and The Monkey Bar (nightclub).

If you like the idea of an Orlando staycation, consider the Grand Bohemian Hotel. The four-star hotel pampers lodgers with an onsite spa and several restaurants, including a gourmet brunch buffet you must see to believe.

Things to Do

Most activities are concentrated within a few city blocks and are entirely walkable. For instance, the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts is one of the top-rated theaters in the U.S. It’s home to the Orlando Ballet, Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, and Opera Orlando.

Everyone should make it a point to see Orlando City (MLS) or the Orlando Pride (NWSL). These men’s and women’s soccer teams, respectively, play at Exploria Stadium, a soccer-specific arena that blends seamlessly into the urban landscape. The up-and-coming Orlando Magic play down the block at the Amway Center, another stadium near the Church Street SunRail station.

Orlando’s loudest annual event is the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC Orlando). The electronic music festival takes over Tinker Field for three days each November. In 2022, festivalgoers enjoyed incredible performances by over 150 EDM artists, including Martin Garrix, Kaskade, and Tiësto.

If you’re looking for peaceful exercise, stroll through Lake Eola Park. The park is dog-friendly and excellent for unwinding after a long work week or an exciting weekend. Lake Eola is where to find the longstanding Orlando Farmers' Market, which takes place each Sunday. You can always find vendors plying fresh produce, baked goods, crafts, jewelry, plants, etc.

The Orange County Public Schools District serves Orlando and is home to numerous top-performing schools, as well as prominent colleges and universities like:
